Purpose of Fieldwork:
Fieldwork (FW) education is a crucial part of professional preparation. Fieldwork experiences should provide the student with the opportunity to carry out professional responsibilities under supervision of a qualified occupational therapy practitioner (Acote 2011).
SPOTS is a recognized occupational therapy fieldwork site with established contracts with Universities/ Colleges including but not limited to the Metropolitan New York area, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Louisiana, California, Canada, and Australia. SPOTS offers FW level I and FW level 2 placements opportunities. The Fieldwork experience at SPOTS is comprehensive, challenging, dynamic and rewarding.
Application Process:
- Collaboration between the fieldwork educator and the academic fieldwork coordinator should be ongoing.
- The contract or letter of agreement serves as a legal document between the fieldwork site and the academic program
- All FW 2 students are required to go through an interview process prior to starting
- All students are responsible for transportation to all fieldwork experiences and maintaining viable health insurance, malpractice insurance, CPR certification, fingerprinting clearance (NYCDOI or NYCDOE) and immunizations according to their fieldwork placements.
