Emily Merrill completed her bother Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy and her Occupational Therapy Doctorate at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA, and her Bachelor of Science in Child Development at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
While completing her doctoral program, Emily worked as an Occupational Therapy Resident at the USC Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) where she treated children between the ages of 3 months and 18 years with or at risk for a qualifying mental health diagnosis, such as anxiety, ADHD, or Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Many of the clients served by the UCEDD had co-occurring diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities. Other clinical experiences include working in an inpatient psychiatric unit with adolescents, an integrated preschool using the FloorTime model, and a transitional living center for pregnant or parenting adolescents and their children. Emily moved to New York City in September, 2019, and is excited to continue exploring all that the city has to offer. In her free time, Emily enjoys dancing, reading, and cooking.
What do you like about being an OT?
Emily is passionate about using a holistic approach to occupational therapy, and takes into account the way each child’s context, family life, and other factors influence their development and functioning on a daily basis.
